Fresh seaweed just cropped out of the sea is dried under the sand ontop of tarpauline sheet or simply hang them with the nylon line and tie-tie still attached on them. Drying process could take up 3-4 days before the seaweed stock can be sacked and delivered to local collector.

After the drying process, the farmer cleans and sorts their seaweed stock. Even that the farmers have cleaned and sorted their seaweed stock, exporters are usually need to do re-cleaning and further drying to get the cleanliness and dryness required by manufacturers.

The seaweed is cultured using bottom-line method. In this kind of culture method the seaweed plantations are concealed under the sea during the high-tide.
